‘Hear the real Liverpool’
Date: 17/05/2010
When we asked people in Liverpool what they would show visitors to the city, we were inundated with ideas!
We asked them to enter a digital photography competition, to create images of the city which could be shown at the Shanghai Expo – ordinary members of the public ‘speaking’ to people in China about their everyday lives.
I wanted visitors to the Expo to feel as though they were seeing and hearing a very personal view of what life is like in Liverpool in the 21st century.
It was less about finding iconic views of the waterfront and more about how our rich history and built heritage blends with the present and takes us into the future – the final photos tell that story.
Yes there are pictures of people shopping in Liverpool One with its sparkling new facilities but the backdrop is pure heritage gold; a group of EMOs in a beautiful classical doorway, a cyclist looking out at new developments alongside internationally recognisable heritage gems and even a pub with famously ornate toilets! You can’t get more diverse than that!
I will keep you updated on the upcoming online portfolio of these images and multimedia. So stay tuned!
